Wedding Description

Looking for the perfect Wedding Venue in Cork? Let us paint you both a picture of how your wedding day at The Vienna Woods Country House Hotel in Cork, Ireland will unfold…

The grounds are reached by a driveway that creeps, curves and snakes up one of Glanmire’s peaks. The original Regency design building has settled comfortably into the leafy landscape that frames it, and it is perched on a height over looking the Glashaboy River below, tributary to the River Lee.

You will greet your guests as bride and groom at the original stone portico entrance to the house, dating from 1903, which is flanked by wrought iron flower arches.

The heavy set wooden door bearing an inlaid circular window is an original design of the hotel, and allows newlyweds the chance to sneak a peek at friends and families within before making their formal entrance. The debut is watched carefully by Mabel Crawford, the one time lady of the house, whose likeness, rendered in oils, sits above an original Adams fireplace dating from the 1800’s.

In the oldest part of the building where the conversation salons, and reception areas of the original house were located, appetites will be whetted with canapés and aperitifs, and seasoned with wedding chats and gossip.

The elegant architectural exterior curve of the building’s structure, most likely an influence of The Adam Style, finds its most beautiful expression in our two reception rooms, an open space joined by a wide neo-classical arch. The eye is drawn first to the large bay windows framed by weighty textured swag curtains, and then upwards past the dancing light of the chandeliers to the swirls of stucco and masterfully restored plasterwork of the ceilings, where pheasants and peacocks flit in and out of flowers and foliage, a playful nod to the building’s original purpose as a leisure lodge.

Chairs are scattered throughout in a cabaret style, giving the newlyweds the perfect opportunity to casually mingle with friends and families, and giving wedding guests ample space to discuss just how beautiful the bride looks, whilst our resident pianist Denis Desmond plays something soft, something romantic, something especially for the two of you…

A sunshine wedding is not always guaranteed, but the hotel’s conservatory, built in the style of an orangery, (a traditional aristocratic feature designed to house exotic fruits), features a lantern style roof, and bathes its sitters in warm light at any time of the year. And if the sun does decide to extend its grace to the newlyweds, the reception can be transferred to the gardens located at the front of the building, where a twilight path is created by festive fairy lights.

Once the wedding guests have had time to settle in to their home for the day and unwind in their surroundings, they will be ushered into the ballroom.

The ballroom, or Magner Suite, was built as an additional feature to the hotel in 2007, and it is a space that strikes a simplistic note of subtle grandeur. It can accommodate a wedding party ranging from 70 to 400 guests, so whether your wedding is of boutique or festival dimensions, the room will be tailored to suit your proportions intimately and seamlessly. The room is bathed in light from an easterly facing wall comprised almost entirely of windows. Once the bride and groom make their official entrance, the bridal party will be seated on a southerly facing raised dais surrounded by their friends and family, who will be escorted to their round tables by our friendly and professional staff.

And after the feasting, comes the merriment and dancing. While the wedding party takes some time to digest, the room will be reorganized, and seats will wrap the dance-floor in anticipation of the all-important first dance.
